Manatee Viewing Center

We took a trip to Apollo Beach a few weekends ago to check out the Manatee Viewing Center built by TECO, our power company. We can see the smoke stacks from the power station across the bay so it was neat to drive over and see them up close. I thought Connor would get a big kick out of seeing the 'cloud makers' up close but he really didn't seem all that impressed. The viewing center evolved due to the large number of manatee's near the power station's discharge canal, where saltwater is taken from the bay to cool the unit and flows, clean and warm, back to the bay. It was a gorgeous day and a fun (free) activity to do with the kids. You can read more about the viewing center here.
